IMPLEMENTATION OF FOOD CHAIN INFORMATION FOR CATTLE SHEEP AND GOATS
From the 1st of January 2010, all cattle moving to slaughter, either directly or through a livestock market, must move with a farmer signed declaration, declaring the animals are free from disease and residues from veterinary medicines that may have been administered to them, as part of the implementation of the Food Chain Information regulations.
The declaration forms can be downloaded from the FSA website and should be filled in and accompany all animals destined for slaughter Click here for form
It is most important you fill in and sign the declarations every time you send animals to a fat stock market or to an abattoir. If the animals arrive without the signed declaration, they will not be accepted by the Meat Hygiene Inspectors and you will not be paid for the animals.

TH Testing
We are pleased to announce that Pfizer Animal Genetics have now obtained a licence to do the TH testing and they are able to extract the DNA from a hair sample. We have arranged with Pfizer that all future TH tests required by the Society will be collected and submitted by the Society. The results will be returned directly to the Society and we will notify members of the test results. The cost of the test is £20 plus VAT and the Society will invoice the member. Hair sample collectors, submission forms and instructions will be sent out by the Society. This new arrangement with Pfizer Animal Genetics should make the TH testing simpler and cheaper. As this service is administered by the Society free of any administration charge it will only be available to members of either the Beef Shorthorn Society or the Shorthorn Society. If you have any questions please contact the office.
* IMPORTANT NOTICE *
Compulsory Health Testing for Society Sales
From January 1st 2009 all animals entered for society sales must be individually blood tested no more than 3 months prior to the sale for BVD, Leptospirosis and IBR unless coming from a herd which has accredited status for the relevant disease. Accredited herds need not be tested for the diseases for which they are accredited. Animals testing antigen positive (PI) for BVD will not be accepted for sale. The results of the blood tests must be displayed at the sale on a health pen card supplied by a Checs accredited health scheme. No other health information will be allowed to be displayed. It is the responsibility of the vendor to ensure that the health pen cards are available for the sale. If you have any questions about these requirements please contact the office.
ANIMALS ARRIVING AT A SALE WITHOUT A COMPLETED HEALTH PEN CARD WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE SALE
