Dairy Shorthorn peaked at 3,000gns at the Society’s summer show and sale at Chelford on Monday 21 May 2012
Leading the day’s trade at 3,000gns was the reserve champion Dee Thorndale Queen 8 from D and L Price-Jones, Dee, Cheshire. By Oxton Lord Foggathorpe, and out of the VG 85 Dee Thorndale Queen 4th, she calved on 2 May and was giving 25 litres at the time of sale. This one was knocked down sold to E Crank, Chester, Cheshire.
The champion and leading cow in-milk, Elkington Amber Princess 10th, a VG 85 roan cow by Loughdale Rising Star Red ET from M S Davies, St Clears, Carmarthenshire sold for 2,800gns to the judge, R Morgan, Whitchurch, Shropshire. Out of the EX 94 point cow Elkington Amber Princess 4th, she calved on 1 April and was sold giving 36 litres.
Two lots reached 2,100gns. First came Dee Pansy 11th, entered by A Wilkes, Leyburn, North Yorkshire. She calved on 2 May and was giving approximately 38 litres at the time of sale when she made 2,100gns to P Swindells, Chelmorton, Derbyshire. The same buyer also purchased the top price maiden heifer, a Grading registered heifer from R Kite, Stafford, Staffordshire, at 750gns. Cotonhall Sapphire 3rd was by the imported semen from Oceanbrae Logics Plato, and out of the 86 point, 10,000 litre Cotonhall Shrek 2nd. The same vendor also peaked the grading registered heifers in milk at 1,680gns with Cotonhall Scarlett 7th. By Nejay Eric, this black heifer went to J G Williams, Nantwich, Cheshire.
Dee Wild Queen 14th also sold for 2,100gns. Shown by E Whittaker, Knutsford, Cheshire, she had calved 9 May and was knocked down sold to R Blockley, Winsford, Cheshire.
