All Breeds All Britain Calf Show 2014 - Champion - <strong>Tabley Moss Rose by B & E Whittaker

UK Dairy Day 2015 - Champion - Churchroyd Heather 50 by IRG Collins & Partners

16th September 2015  | Judge:  John Suffern

UK Dairy Day 2015 is a resounding success for IRG Collins & Partners

Judge John Suffern of Ravenhill Pedigree Ayrshires tapped out Churchroyd Heather 50th from the Collins family as the Dairy Shorthorn Champion.  Commenting on his Breed Champion John states “the balance of this cow and her tremendous mammary system edged her into the top spot today”.

Churchroyd Heather 50th EX94 stood first in the senior cow in milk class having just calved her fourth at the beginning of August and she is currently giving 44kgs daily.  This is the first major outing for the Churchroyd Victor Ex96 daughter out of the formidable Churchroyd Heather 29th EX96.  This cow was the complete package for John Suffern as she tracked on a good set of legs and feet with “the best udder on the day displaying fantastic bloom and a super attachment with great rear width”.

Securing Reserve Champion was G & B Bell’s Irthingvale Watzon Tulip that stood second in the senior cow in milk class.  “Truly the hardest split of the day was the top two senior cows”.  Tulip EX92 calved her fourth in July and she is currently giving 42kgs daily having achieved over 10,000kgs in her third lactation.  “This is a cow with tremendous style, presence and scope her stretch and depth of rib are superb”.  A daughter of Drisgol Watzon EX90 Tulip is no stranger to the show ring having won the Championship at UK Dairy Day 2014 and Oswestry 2014, which were the only two appearances she made last year.

Rounding out the Championship was Churchroyd Peggy 19th as Honorable Mention.   Peggy 19th VG88 has been round the show circuit this year and has been unstoppable in the junior cow in milk class.  This Nejay Prince 4th daughter is hard to surpass for such a young cow “the depth and openness of rib and height and stretch of body” just placed her at the top of the class over a sweet dairy cow in second.

Finally IRG Collins won the heifer in milk class with Churchroyd Heather 71st ET VG86 because she had “the best udder in the class”.  The “ height and width in the rear udder and lovely veination through the fore” gave her the advantage over the second placed milk heifer that had great capacity and excellent bone quality.  Heather 71st a Ladino Park Talent daughter is definitely one to keep an eye on in the future.

Congratulations go to all the exhibitors who took part in what is becoming a dairy show not to miss.  The Dairy Shorthorns might have been few in quantity but high in quality.  Well done to everyone.
