This year The Shorthorn Society AGM and Judging Day was held at Brinsbury Campus, Chichester College, Pulborough by kind permission of the Farm Manager Dan Stamper. Everyone who braved the mammoth journey south was truly rewarded with superb hospitality throughout the day.
Following consultation with the members and Regional Associations the Shorthorn Society Council decided at its meeting on 3rd March that with effect from January 1st 2018 registrations in Coates’s Herd book (dairy) will only be accepted for calves whose sire and dam are already registered as Shorthorns in Coates’s Herd book (dairy) and will be registered with no mention of percentage purity. Animals whose sire or dam are not registered in Coates’s Herd book will be eligible to enter the herdbook through the grading up scheme. Full details will be circulated with the next newsletter.
This decision will consolidate the huge improvements made to the breed through the Shorthorn Breed Improvement Scheme whilst retaining the inherent Shorthorn traits of good fertility, mobility and longevity.
